CD Baby Launches New Mobile Distro App

CD Baby Asks Independent Musicians, “Please Do Not Distribute Your Music While Driving!”

World’s Largest Distributor of Independent Music Launches Re-Designed Member Mobile/Responsive Website and Celebrates with $6.95 Single Track Distribution Discount Through February 2

For the first time in the history of the music industry, an independent musician can get their music distributed on all major digital platforms immediately while riding in a tour van. “We are asking all independent musicians: please do not upload your tracks to iTunes through our service while driving,” states Kevin Breuner, Director of Marketing at CD Baby, the digital distributor whose customers’ tracks make up more than 17% of the iTunes track catalog. “But it is OK to sign up and start distribution and other CD Baby services from the passenger or rear seats.”

On Tuesday, January 21, CD Baby, the world’s largest distributor of independent music and home to more than 300,000 artists, launched its new member website. Completely made over, it’s now mobile-friendly to accommodate the ever-increasing traffic from phones and tablets.

To celebrate the launch of the new site, CD Baby is offering members worldwide digital distribution of a single song for the special low price of only $6.95 until midnight on Sunday, February 2. Normally $12.95, the offer includes use of the CD Baby Facebook app and an opt-in to the Sync program (for YouTube monetization). Users can upload as many songs as they wish during the offer for only $6.95 each.

20% of CD Baby sign-ups come from mobile devices and tablets, and traffic surged for no apparent reason as soon as the re-design was launched. “Our new website more quickly reveals our recent offerings – like our publishing service, CD Baby Pro, and our video Sync platform,” says Breuner. Making the site so mobile-friendly keeps CD Baby far ahead of the competition. Now, a band on tour can easily update their page from the road, and with CD Baby’s connection to SoundCloud, upload their audio files to their pages for sale.

“With the new website, CD Baby clearly communicates why we are the leader in digital distribution,” says Breuner. “It makes it really clear to understand we are not a new player on the market getting your fast food singles on iTunes. It’s about getting a deep breadth of services that rival what label artists can get.”
