June 2002
Mariza’s Fado em Mim reaches gold status in Portugal (20,000 units); the first true fadista to reach this status since Amalia Rodrigues. The album went on to sell over 100,000 units worldwide.
Mariza sings the national anthem of Portugal at the World Cup Soccer game between Korea and Portugal.
July 2002
Mariza receives a standing ovation from a packed “hip hop crowd” at the Hollywood Bowl when opening for Lauryn Hill; a rare feat for an “opening act.”
Hollywood Bowl performance impresses the directors of the L.A. Philharmonic, who subsequently invite Mariza to perform with the L.A. Philharmonic during the opening season (2003/2004) of the new Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A. Concert scheduled for April 2, 2004.
At the two-week long Festival D’Ete in Quebec, which featured most of the major World Music artists, Mariza is presented with the Coup de Couer Mirror Award for most outstanding performance.

Mariza co-bills with Susana Baca at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
December 2002
Fado em Mim is named a Top Ten World Music CD of 2002 by Afropop Worldwide as well as the Los Angeles Times.
January 2003
Mariza’s debut performance at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in February 2003 sells out so fast, the venue decides to book a second night, which also sells out.
February 2003
Mariza is awarded “Best European Artist” in the 2003 BBC Awards for World Music.
March 2003
BBC Television records a special live Mariza concert in London to be broadcast worldwide.
May 2003
Mariza set to release new album, Fado Curvo, on May 6 complemented by an extensive North American tour.
June 2003
Mariza will be the cover story of Global Rhythm, the most highly distributed world music magazine in America.
