A Thousand Years at Sea team up with Neil Pearlman's Scottish Infusions
Two groups team up on July 1 to bring Grass Valley a combined release party of A Thousand Years at Sea's new EP “We Will Fall Apart” and Neil Pearlman's new CD “Coffee and the Mojo Hat.”
A Thousand Years at Sea features Colin Cotter and Ethan Lewis on voice, fiddle and guitar with Neil Pearlman on keyboards. All three have been instructors and participants at Alasdair Fraser's fiddle camps. The trio put original songs into an indie-folk setting mixing together Celtic and American fiddling, and jazz/Cape Breton piano creating a unique and original sound. The new EP, “We Will Fall Apart” highlights the incorporation of rock while keeping true to its roots in acoustic folk music
Ethan Lewis has been a fixture on the Nevada County music scene as a member of Root Down One among other creative string bands. Lewis also teaches violin at The Nevada City School of the Arts and Alasdair Fraser's Sierra Fiddle Camp. In the last few years Lewis has added guitar and vocals to his kit and, with A Thousand Years at Sea, has emerged as a compelling singer/songwriter.
Neil Pearlman's Scottish Infusion takes Scottish tunes and adds a good deal of Latin, funk and jazz to bring out hidden grooves in the traditional tunes. Pearlman's new CD has already garnered praise from media sources such as the Huffington Post and Portland Press Herald, which referred to Neil's “dazzling piano chops.” Together the two groups will make for a spellbinding show not to be missed. The other members of the group are all active players in the New York city music scene. Doug Berns plays bass in countless projects in the city, including the increasingly popular Afro-Beat band “Emefe.” Javier Ramos, another member of Emefe, brings a distinctly Cuban flair to the band with his conga playing, and Alex Cohen is one of the most in demand session drummers in the city for his superb technical chops and precision on the drum kit. 06/30/11 >> go there
