Dirty Linen, CD Review >>
After compiling light-hearted (Brasileiro) and upbeat (Brazilian Groove) Brazilian albums, the folks at Putumayo have decided to explore the more gentle side of the country's music. The producers wisely chose not 10 duplicate artists and, considering that there's so much to draw from, also chose to make room for some new discoveries. For every big name such as Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Gal Costa, and Rita Ribeiro, there's a new voice such as Glaucia Nasser and Lula Queiroga. Because of these two factors, a more or less homogenous musical approach, and the inclusion of some lesser names, Acoustic Brazil avoids being just another generic compila tion of world music. 06/01/05
