MIDSUMMER NIGHT SWING
Dancing under the stars at Lincoln Center gets under way on July 7 with the New Orleans brassman Kermit Ruffins and his smoking-hot band the Barbecue Swingers. July 8: Chubby Checker twists into town. July 9: The big-band sounds of the Woody Herman Orchestra. July 10: The Occidental Brothers Dance Band International, which comes from Chicago and plays smooth West African highlife, warms up the crowd for a Congolese extravaganza courtesy of Samba Mapangala and his orchestra Virunga. July 11: The Big 3 Palladium Orchestra plays the music of Machito, Tito Rodríguez, and Tito Puente. July 14: More swing music from the singer Melba Joyce and her big band.
