OTTAWA — Canteen, an Ottawa art gallery, has been selected to exhibit a series of posters created to celebrate the artists nominated for this year’s Polaris prize.
Graphic artists from across the country, including Doublenaut, Todd Stewart, Justin Lafontaine, Marc Rimmer and more, are working on posters inspired by the 10 short-listed musical artists. Up for this year’s $20,000 Polaris prize are the Besnard Lakes, Broken Social Scene, Caribou, Karkwa, Dan Mangan, Owen Pallett, Radio Radio, the Sadies, Shad and Tegan And Sara.
Canteen Art Shop and Gallery on Dalhousie Street will display the limited-edition prints from Sept. 17-26. The Polaris Music Prize is awarded each year to a Canadian album of the highest artistic integrity, as chosen by a panel of music critics.
This year’s prize will be handed out at a gala in Toronto on Sept. 20. In addition to receiving their poster that night, each of the short-listed artists will also perform during the event.
