After fat, swampy Mardi Gras-flavored music held sway Tuesday night when New Orleans' Dirty Dozen Brass Band played at the Miller Lite Oasis, zydeco singer Geno Delafose and his band, French Rockin' Boogie, hosted their own Louisiana-style hoedown Wednesday evening at the Hyundai Big Easy Club with 94.5 WKTI and Miller Lite.
While a core unit of bass, drums and guitar provides basic rock and boogie-woogie rhythms, Geno decorates them with cajun-infected vocals and Tex-Mex-flavored squeeze box runs, while another band member stands beside the leader, accenting the beats with strokes on his frottoir (washboard).
The result is a rollicking sound that inspires dancers of all ages to give it a go.  High points came when the band broke into "French Rockin' Boogie," the title of Delafose's '94 debut, and into numbers from the group's recent release, "Everybody's Dancin'."
