[Excerpt]

Geno Delafose and Steve Riley – While they’re not performing together, Delafose (4:30 p.m., Saturday) and Riley (3:30 p.m. Sunday) are both playing in Girard Park.  If I had to pick the best CDs of 2003, they would be Delafose “Everybory’s Dancin” and Riley’s new “Bon Reve.”  (Riley’s CD release party is tonight at Grant Street Dancehall.)

In today’s sour music climate, not much of anything sells out.  But my friends, Todd Ortego of the Music Machine in Eunice, quickly sold out of Riley’s CD last week.

Ortego even sold his personal copy of “Bon Reve” to, guess who? Geno.

I’m unable to pick which CD is best.  Delafose and Riley would have to fight it out in a cow-bell, loser-leave-town, steel cage match.  Until then, enjoy them at the festival.

Geno Delafose and Terrance Simien – If Delafose and Simien had a dollar for every mile they’ve traveled over the years, both could retire and share the wealth with every man, woman and child in Lafayette Parish.  But not only are these zydeco superstars home this weekend, they’re on the same stage.

Delafose and Simien share a double bill Saturday night at Grant Street.  These St. Landry Parish natives (born within miles of eachother) have different styles, yet they’re two of zydeco’s most visible ambassadors.

The big question is will they jam together?  Squeeze into Grant Street Saturday night to find out.
