Sunday News, A French twist will close Long's Park Summer Series >>

The 2005 Long's Park Summer Entertainment Series draws to close at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, with the appearance of Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie!

Blending zydeco, Creole and Cajun music, the five-man band, headed by Delafose (above) as lead vocalist, rounds out its sound with the talents of John Paul "Popp" Esprite on bass guitar and vocals; Wilfred Pierre on wash board and vocals; Gerard Delafose on drums and vocals; and Chuck Bush as lead guitarist.

The son of the great zydeco accordionist John Delafose, Geno began playing in his father's band, the Eunice Playboys, at age 7. First playing the frottoir, or rub board, he moved on to drums and later accordion.

Forming his own band, French Rockin' Boogie, Delafose soon developed his OUTI repertoire with the group. Time Out New York dubbed the sound "perfect warm- weather music for those who like to two-step, twirl and waltz."
