Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie, Everybody's Dancin' (***)

If country labels were serious about wanting another black star, they would have scouted second-generation zydeco musician Delafose years ago. He's a good-looking Louisiana cattle rancher who loves the music and dresses the part. His hot accordion and the rub-board rhythms of French Rockin' Boogie stay deeply rooted in traditional zydeco sounds. Still, Delafose's musical vision is expansive enough that it includes not only tunes from country singer David Ball and the great Cajun accordionist Nathan Abshire but also remakes of Sam Cooke's What a Wonderful World and Tyrone Davis' '60s soul hit Can I Change My Mind.— Mansfield 05/13/03
