Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie is one of Louisiana’s best traditional zydeco bands. They play old zydeco sounds with the energy of their 26 year-old leader. Young Geno got his start at the age of 7 playing frottoir (rubboard) in his late father’s bad - John Delafose and the Eunice Playboys. He literally took over as leader of his father’s band when the older Delafose fell ill in the early 90s. Although Geno continues to play much of the old time zydeco he grew up playing, a sound that distinguishes him today, he also mines Cajun music, French Creole, blues and country swing.

Zydeco music is accordion-driven, and Geno is legendary for comfortably switching from single-row to triple-row and piano accordions.

Several Anthem staff members spent the night dancing at Geno’s show in Maryland the night before he came to our studios. We determined that you really can salsa to swing music and get away with it! The next day when Geno visited our studios, the truly accomplished NPR dancers listened to the session on our in-house radio system or visited Studio 4A to dance in the control room.
