Leah Callahan's title Even Sleepers gave me a little hope for the quality of this album, as it comes from a Greek Philosopher Heraclitus. This, mixed with album art filled with awesome photography and very cool design on the CD, got me a little excited to listen to this album. I won't lie and tell you it was as great as I expected – this album is pretty noncomplex, hardly has any instruments in the background and can be boring. Most of the music sounds the same, considering it's just one woman singing each song with hardly any background music and, of course, there are a couple good songs, but there are nine all together. It is be unique at times, with accordion playing and some acoustic guitar behind the vocals, but this album doesn't have much to say and doesn't call out to you. Let's just say it's easy to blank out during this album. Don't think I'm being harsh, I don't have much to work with; this album is less than 23 minutes long. The songs blur together with pretty much the same energy and tempo, and the lack of songs (or length of them) doesn't make this album a buy I recommend. (Review by Shaina Love)
* Editor’s Note: On the flip side, I really enjoyed this album. Leah Callahan has a very unique voice that makes me feel as though I stepped into a blend of Irish pub and cocktail lounge. The lack of instrumentation compliments the lush, sullen melodies with just enough noise as to avoid overpowering the subtle vibe of each song. The title is a perfect description of what the album presents. (Addition by Mandy Van Deven) 01/01/04 >> go there
