How cool is Varttina? Next year, the eclectic Finnish folk ensemble will score a major stage adaptation of "The Lord of the Rings" in London's West End. Better yet, Mari Kaasinen's singers have long made up one of the best female vocal groups in the world, borrowing their ancient, intricate, fun harmonies from the remote region of Karelia, which is somewhere north of Middle-earth. It's disappointing that they've dropped from four singers to three on "Iki," their latest, but no matter. I've always argued that despite the language barrier, this band should be accessible to any lover of great girl-fronted pop. (7:30 p.m. Sun., Cedar Cultural Center, 416 Cedar Av.
