Many international musicians (including Cuban flavorpill favorite Chucho Valdés) have had problems touring in the US in the Ridge/Rumsfeld era of homeland security. Tonight, 16 artists from five continents play short sets at the first ever GlobalFEST, a festival designed to excite listeners about new artists and create opportunities for world music to thrive. Scheduled acts include outspoken South African singer/songwriter Vusi Mahlasela (who missed the 2003 Brooklyn African festival due to visa trouble), the gypsy/klezmer fusion of Les Yeux Noirs, and a few acts with some local color — the roiling percussion of Cyro Baptista and Beat the Donkey and the polyglot pop of Angelique Kidjo.
