GLOBALFEST
The world-music aisle of your local record store comes to life as sixteen artists converge on three stages at the Public Theatre. The range of styles and performers is extremely wide (everything from the hip-hop stylings of the Cuban singer Raul Paz to the classical strains of the Persian spike-fiddle player Kayhan Kalhor), and the sets are short (only forty minutes), so it will be possible to span the globe in one evening. Highlights include an acous-tic set by Angélique Kidjo, the cathartic wailings of the fado singer Mariza, and the sensuous voice of Susheela Raman. (425 Lafayette St. 212-239-6200. Jan. 10, starting at 8.) 01/05/04 >> go there
