"Raise Your Spirit Higher (Wenyukela)"

If your expo sure to this veteran South African vocal group has been limited to its supporting role on Paul Simon's 1986 album "Graceland," it's high time you formed a deeper appreciation for Ladysmith Black Mambazo. "Raise Your Spirit Higher (Wenyukela)" is a fine place to start, courtesy of the Heads Up division of Beachwood-based record company Telarc. Led by Joseph Shabalala, the 10-member ensemble cloaks songs of faith, hope and love (sung in Zulu, for the most part) in an intricate tapestry of soaring solo voices and dazzling harmonies. Improbably, one of the most stirring numbers is "Fak' Ibhande," a public-service announcement against drunk driving. Then again, Ladysmith Black Mambazo could sing the phone book and make it rival Handel's "Messiah." In stores Tuesday. A
