Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Raise Your Spirit Higher (Heads Up, 2004)

 

Eighteen years after Paul Simon introduced them to the world, South Africa’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo is still going full steam.  Ben Harper teamed up with them on last year’s “Picture of Jesus,” and several tunes on Spirit also carry a Christian theme – ‘though the lyrics barely matter.  With voices this haunting, they could sing about snail mating habits and still cast a spell. 03/04/04
