Considered one of its country’s national treasures, this band takes us back in history to the 1700s, when Peru’s slaves were forbidden to use drums and the cajonóan, made from crates used to collect fruit, became the instrument of choice.  Add the Cuban conga and bongo, and Peru Negro was born.  Celebrating its 35^th year in 2004, Peru Negro’s Jolgorio continues to celebrate history, rhythm and passion with its soulful, melodic musical blend.  They toured this spring and will be back on tour again by late summer/early fall. 

Esta banda, que es considerada uno de los tesoros nacionales del país, nos retrotrae al siglo XVIII, cuando se les prohibia a los esclavos de Perú utilizar tambores y el cajonóan, hecho de canastas utilizadas para recolectar fruta, se convirtió en el instrumento elegido.  Agregaron la conga cubana y el bongo, y asi nació Perú Negro.  Celebrando sus 35 años en el 2004, Jolgorio de Perú Negro continua celebrando la historia, el ritmo y la pasión con su mezcla musical espiritual y melódica.  Estuvieron de gira esta primavera y estarán nuevamente de gira a fines del verano y principios del otoño.
