Peru Negro whirls into Duluth
When Peruvian slaves were told their drums were outlawed, they found a loophole. They discovered they could preserve their rhythms using empty fruit crates, chairs, almost anything that made noise when slapped or struck with a bamboo stick.
The Lima-based group dances and creates music on an array of authentic instruments, including a donkey jaw used as a shaker and scraper. 02/26/06
