Rootsworld, CD Review >>
Guitarist Habib Koite still lives in Mali, but his big success happened abroad, which lead to larger audiences at home. Koite is not as "famous" as other African stars, but he has toured the U.S. extensively and sold over 80,000 copies of his last album Baro (Putumayo) in North America alone. > Now Koite has returned with a double live album Foly, on World Village. While his group resembles a rock band, Koite plays an electrified nylon-string guitar, which softens his sound, and uses traditional instruments along with electric ones. The result is music that moves , but has a gentle, amiable sound. 05/18/04
