Billboard's Musician's Guide to Touring and Promotion, Homefront: Bio Ritmo Wins Northeast Showcase >>
Richmond, Va.-based salsa act Bio Ritmo (pictured above) were recently crowned champions of the Northeast Showcase Finals of the Independent Music World in New York. The group competed against five others acts from throughout the Northeast at the West Village club the Lion's Den. Others finalists included New York-based neo-soul act Queen Esther, New-York based singer/songwriter Maura Fogarty, Mamaroneck, N.Y.-based singer/songwriter Elza, singer/pianist Christy Riordan of Prides Crossing, Mass., and New York hip-hop duo the Omega Project.
Judges representing the likes of Billboard, the Village Voice, CMJ and BMI scored each act in such categories as on songwriting, stage presence, and overall vibe. As winners, Bio Ritmo took home more than $35,000 in prizes, including a guitar, bass and amp from Fender, a complete set of DW drums and Sabian cymbals, a set of five Shure microphones and a manufacturing deal for 2,000 discs from Disc Makers. 12/15/03 >> go there
