Dirty Linen, CD Review >>

For those who aren't hard-core devotees of the genre, listening to a lot of Balkan brass music can probably become a tiring experience, but Boban I Marko may someday be seen as a milestone of sorts simply for prominently featuring Marko, Boban Markovic's yound teenage son. To call him a prodigy may be an understatement. He is known for practicing 10 hours a day, and his musical skills are sonsidered truly awesome - as are those of his father, probably the premier trumpet player in Serbia, where the competition is fierce. Unfortunately, with two other flugelhorn players besides the father-and-son team, and an additional four tenor horns and three drummers, it's impossible to focus in on Marko's playing. This type of Balkan band is usually best appreciated live, but the Boban Markovic Orkestar is nonetheless one of the best of its type, as this album demonstrates.
