The first national world music radio program, Afropop Worldwide, has launched a new series that ties together history and its perspective on different world music. Led by the amazing and legendary voice of Cameroon’s George Collinet, this series is amazing and incredibly enlightening. Can you imagine great music and scholar’s commentary about a variety of music history combined as one? Supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, this program is broadcast on over 100 Public Radio International stations. The talks on this promotional disc celebrating the fantastic radio program are amazing and range from Carnival 2004 to the musical history of al-Andalus to the liberation of the drum. While this particular promotional CD is not for sale you can find the radio program on one of many stations carrying it and yes, I’m searching for this program on my radio dial as I type.
