Afropop Worldwide’s fascinating and foot-tapping forays into the history of African-influenced music around the world has been one of the gems on National Public Radio affiliate stations for 17 years. Now Afropop is spawning a new radio series, Hip Deep, that takes their successful formula and adds the perspectives of the most current music scholars, historians, and culture commentators. Some of the new programs on tap will be: Tarab: The Art of Ecstasy in Arab Music, The Liberation of the Drum, The Musical Legacy of Al-Andalus, and South African Artists on Their Tenth Anniversary of Freedom.
