Miriam Makeba testified before the Unite Nations in 1963 about apartheid in South Africa. That cost her citizenship in South Africa, but with the help of Harry Belafonte she was able to immigtat~ 'to the U.S. Thus she was able to continue her career which now spans 50 years, On Reflections; she deliverS a baker's dozen of songs just in time to cel- ebrate the ten-year anniver- sary of the end of apartheid. Celebrate along with Miriam by enjoying tracks as the rhythmic, "Iyaguduza," a song that made her a house- hold name -"Pata Pata," plus the pretty "Comme Vne Symphonie D'Amour" sung in French, the bossa nova clas- sic "Mas Que Nada," "and an enchanting arrangement of her hit "The Click Song," The lush sound of, "I'm In wve With Spring," the bossa nova beauty "Xica Da Silva," the pensive ballad "Love Tastes Like Strawberries," and the breezy "I Shall Sing." The or- gan-laden "Quit It" and the harmonizing of "Where Are You Going?" mark the end of the beautiful Makeba vocals! 05/28/04
