Actually, the three-man Senegalese rap group could be singing about bragging and bling, but only listeners who speak French and native West African languages would understand it. But instead, Daara J’s lyrics are about the fight for justice and the end of political and social corruption in Africa.
Wyclef Jean loves the group, and will be playing shows with the group during an upcoming summer tour. The group’s albums are eclectic and full-bodied, thumping hip hop in three languages. The newest one, “Boomerang,” was released this month in the U.S. and already won a BBC World Music Award. Daara J will play an exclusive preview show tomorrow night at SOB’s in Tribeca.
