The Senegalese hip-hop trio Daara J. has glo bal objectives on its album "Boomerang" (Wrasse), which juggles singing, rapping, multiple languages and even more musical idioms. The picked strings of Senegalese traditional music, the close-harmony vocals of R&B, the back-beat of reggae, the minor chords of gangsta rap and the syncopation of a Cuban son are all at their fingertips, and even with just a few English phrases scattered through the songs, the group's consciousness-raising intent is clear.
