Smother, CD Review >>
In ’97 Steve Tibbetts paired Tibetan Buddhist chanting with lush guitars and percussion. Colloborating with Buddhist nun Coying Drolma to produce another ground shaking album that aids in visualization and meditation in “Selwa” after following the success of “Cho”, their album of equal merit and critical acclaim. Many may mistakenly cast this aside as yet another New Age generic offering but they’d be missing out on a lot. Practicing a form of Vajrayana Buddhism that cuts through the
physical and spiritual obstacles to enlightenment that boasts vigorous meditating in settings as odd as graveyards. The album comes off as a moody environment for that meditation to take place and Choying’s chants add color to the hand-drumming, sampled sounds, and guitar atmospheres. Perfect. 08/22/04 >> go there
