The Beat, CD Review >>

Humility is a hallmark of Buddhism and so we close with some authentic chants from genuine Tibetan masters. Selwa (Six Degrees) by Tibetan nun Choying Drolma and American guitarist Steve Tibbetts, who collaborated to great effect almost decade back on their first release, adds a bit of bite to the ethereal chants with rhythms and songs from Hindu devotional songs and even some more con temporary tunes. Sticking in the ether is The Lama's Chains: Songs of Awakening/Roads of Blessings (Narada) by Lama Gyurme and Jean Philippe Kykiel, which switches the chant gender to male and the instrument to keyboard; the first of these two cds was released first in i 1994 and the second is live selections, including some from the widely known Rain of Blessings (Real World) from 2000. Lower in voice than Macka B or Barry White, even; you know the sound if you recall the Gyoto Monks. Peace and inner spirit are the messages and the medium. Just Say Om. 05/01/05
