PUTUMAYO

It truly takes a woman’s touch.  Although Latin American music is chock full of passion and soul, leave it up to las mujeres to add and extra shot of sabor to the mix.  Enjoyable beats from Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Peru, and Mexico show that iestas mujeres si que tienen ritmo! Each Latina weaves a web of diverse sounds, combining contemporary and traditional styles.  Bossa nova and samba are just a sample of the rich rhythms infused into this album.  The album includes romantic and spiritual ballads about love, tradition, and legend.  Jacqueline Fuentes’ soft voz lingers over smooth bossa nova rhythms in “Sinuoso Tropico.”  Her magical voice and romantic, nature-inspired lyrics sway listeners to loosen up while spreading infectious carpe diem voodoo.  Totó La Momposina’s “Yo Me Llamo Cumbia” boasts cumbia beats that will have you waving a Colombian flag, regardless of your origins.  A melody glorifying la patria, her canto culminates in a powerful voice zealously repeating, “Yo say Colombiana, tierra hermosa donde naci.”
