Kitka Wintersongs This release is an editor's pick on Smother.Net
Choral groups amaze me. How you can put that many bodies doing vocals together in a room and come out with a unity and harmony that’s unmatched just blows my mind. “Wintersongs” features a women’s vocal ensemble with songs that are pre-Christian in origin and lean towards Eastern Europe’s traditional sounds. Some are beautifully wept about in a minor key that makes you blush with excitement and raw tenacity. The harmonies lavish about the varying ranges that these talented vocalist command at their whim soaring about in the stratosphere though still decidedly earthy. The origins of the songs range from Bulgaria to Russia to Hungary to Ukraine, Moravia, and even Greece. Stunning now has a new and deeper meaning.
