New York Post, Review >>
Here's a charming album of traditional Cuban son with progressive undertones, courtesy of veteran poet Ferrer. A perceptive songwriter with a weakness for slice-of-live vignettes, Ferrer finds humor in the presence of two vegetarian Norwegians in meat-starved Cuba ("Conga Vegetariana") and the excessive bravado of jealous husbands ("Maridos Majaderos"). The instrumental accompaniment may be sparse in most of these tunes, but the soaring vocal choruses are just glorious.
