Chicago Tribune, CD Review by Ernesto Lechner >>
Accordion wiz Spasiuk is from Argentina, but don't let that fool you into thinking this soothing album has anything to do with tango. A native of the northern Misiones province, Spasiuk favors the chamame, an elegant genre that reflects the simple joys of life in the countryside and is the extreme opposite of Buenos Aires and its tense neuroses. Spasiuk surrounds himself with guitars, violin, bandoneon and minor percussion, never allowing his virtuoso accordion to become showy. There's a peaceful feel to these mostly instrumental tracks, a contagious sense of bonhomie that transcends the record's region-specific cultural roots. 03/27/05 >> go there
