Times Union, Concert Preview >>
Nigerian juju music pioneer King Sunny Ade has made quite a name for himself in the United States, but he's never toured before quite like this before. His current tour - also featuring "highllife" musician Prince Obi Osadebe - finds Ade and his band, the African Beats, performing African-style. Concert goers are encouraged to practice the tradition of "spraying," in which audience memebers simultaneously offer money to the performer while receiving recognition in the form of praise singing. As former Phish man Trey Anastasio has proclaimed, "If you go to see King Sunny Ade, you know you're going to dance all night." The concert is a benefit for RPI's radio station, WRPI (91.5 FM). 03/24/05
