Smother, CD Review >>
Review - Popular in the far reaches of the world and yet relatively obscure in the more “civilized” areas of the globe, Trans-Global Underground are worldbeat that is refreshingly downtempo and club-oriented. Operating on the premise that there is no such thing as musical style, Trans-Global Underground combines the raw qualities of so many divergent music cultures and pastes them all together for this truly global sound. On one track you could hear guest artists like Trio Bulgarka (two well-known vocalists from Bulgaria), or a Malian rap outfit Tatapound or even Sheema Mukherjee’s awesome sitar play, all the while the beats are thick and densely populated with creative sonic atmospheres. There’s issues dealt with that are highly political but refusing to be classified there are plenty that couldn’t be further from politics. If you’re looking for true genre-declassification, than this album is your bag. I absolutely love it. 06/14/05 >> go there
