WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Folk Festival features something for both traditional and new wave folkies.
Winnipeg-born concert promoter Chris Frayer has lined up country-folk icon Emmylou Harris and producer Daniel Lanois for the festival that begins Friday.
He also has signed pioneering roots-punk band Camper Van Beethoven, Zimbabwean protest singer Oliver Mtukudzi, blues pianist Dr. John and Canadian singer-songwriters Feist and Martha Wainwright.
Last year, the festival set a record with an average paid attendance of more than 10,500 fans per day.
That helped the non-profit organization post a surplus of $108,000 on an overall budget of more than $2.4 million. 07/07/05 >> go there
