Zimbabwe's Mapfumo spent the 1970s singing in defiance of white rule in the then Rhodesia. Now he has channelled this moral cpaital into outspoken opposition to Robert Mugabe's government. Rich with brass stabs and spiky guitar meshing with the metallic sound of mbira thumb pianos, for the most part 'Rise Up' lopes easily. But whene it kicks up a gear, as in "Handimrotya", the full force of Mapfumo's anger is apparent.
