Born and raised in Lisbon, this young singer's roots lie in Cape Verdean archipelago 300 miles off the coast of the west African nation of Senegal. With her five-piece band, Lura sings sultry styles such as batuku (polyrhythmic songs based on the beat of chores like cleaning clothes), the accordion-based funana, all while mixing in jazz and touch of fado.
