WORLD MUSIC: LURA
Friday: The music of the West African archipelago of Cape Verde is a fascinating blend of cultural influences, with some sounds echoing the mainland's traditional tunes and others that wafted in on the wind from other tropical climes. Lura is a singer from the ample Cape Verdean community within Lisbon, Portugal, so her music manages to toss a few more Latin spices into the recipe, creating a style that can be soothing, propulsive, mournful or joyous but always filled to the brim with emotion.
