Di Korpu Ku Alma www.EscondidaMusic.com
Gig alert! Lura weaves hidden treasures Feb. 1 at Berkeley's Ashkenaz. Lura's musical tour of Cape Verde- a group of 10 islands with their own dialects and personalities mixing West African and Portuguese roots- is focused mainly on Santiago, the most African of the islands featuring batuku and funana styles of music. The accordian driven funana style was considered too erotic and was prohibited. I think it's perfect for sipping fruity drinks next to ocean or anything else where joy is important. Witness for yourself as a second disic is a DVD compilation with live concert footage, a documentary and some lovely videos. My picks: "Tabanka Assigo," "Vazulina," "To Martins," "Batuku," "Oh Naia," "So Um Cartinha," "Raboita Di Rubon Manel," "Tem Um Hora Pa Tude" and "Nha Vida." 01/26/06
