Cape Verde star Lura entertained and educated thestudents of Stax Academy on the instruments, music anddance of the West African Island. In ahands-on, two hour outreach on December 4, thestudents learned about the Portuguese, Caribbean andAfrican influences that make up the Cape Verdetradition. The lecture/demonstration followed her soldout performance atthe Buckman Performing and Fine Arts Center and wasmade possible by an Arts Build Communities grant, aprogram funded by the Tennessee General Assemblyand administered in cooperation with the TennesseeArts Commission and theGreater Memphis Arts Council. 01/18/07
