HERE'S a look at just part of the slate for the San Francisco Stern Grove Festival's 68th summer season: Alternative rocker John Doe, The Funk Brothers, Ojos de Brujo, BeauSoleil with Michael Doucet, the daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

And every show is free.

Each of the festival's 10 concerts is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Sundays from June 19 to Aug. 21 in the recently renovated Sigmund Stern Grove, at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard, San Francisco.

No tickets or advance reservations are required. Organizers suggest people arrive early for best lawn seating. It is OK to bring picnic food, low beach chairs and ground covers. It is not OK to bring tall chairs, beach umbrellas or pets.

Designated benches are reserved for seniors older than 65 and disabled persons with one guest until 30 minutes before the concert.

The June 19 show features Lucinda Williams and John Doe. The June 26 concert consists of the flamenco group Ojos de Brujo and O-Maya. The San Francisco Symphony performs July 3. The July 10 program includes Khaled "King of Rai," Don Was, Elan Attias, Cheb i Sabbah, Walfredo Reyes Jr. and special guests.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir perform July 17, The Funk Brothers and Broun Fellinis play July 24. The San Francisco Opera with Carol Vaness and friends are on the July 31 bill.

Waldemar Bastos and Maria de Barros highlight the Aug. 7 show. BeauSoleil with Michael Doucet and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band make up the Aug. 14 slate. The Aug. 21 show consists of daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra and Youth Speaks Slam Champs.

Various kids' days, youth-education programs, musical conversations with artists, and pre-concert talks also are scheduled during the summer at Stern Grove.
