Though the name may not instantly ring bells, as soon as Jorge chimes in on "Tive Razão" with his unmistakable voice and guitar style, most listeners will likely be expecting some David Bowie lyrics to follow. It sort of sucks that the only way Jorge could achieve notoriety in the United States is by imprinting his peculiar and sparse style upon Bowie songs in The Life Aquatic, and it's important to note that he is anything but a musical novelty. However, the isolated troubadour he portrayed in that movie was, in a weird way, a good introduction to Jorge's style – in that he very seldom sounds like that at all. Cru is dominated by quirky, propulsive arrangements that rely on mucked-up sequences and reconstituted favela sounds, but whether it's those tracks, more pensive, folky numbers like "Fiore de la Città" or, oddly enough, covers of Serge Gainsbourg and Elvis Presley, it's all about Jorge's voice and vision.
