You may remember Seu from the film A Life Aquatic with Bill Murray, in which Brazilian favelado-turned-crooner Seu George throws a soulful Bossa Nova flair on some classic David Bowie tunes. On Cru, his recent solo album, we find a gentler more soulfully-refined Seu George. Full of glistening mandolins and light percussion, the stand out on this album is George's voice; though not the most in pitch (think Bob Dylan at his best!), you can feel every emotion without having to know a word of Portuguese. The percussive backgrounds throughout the album flow from hip hop to Carnaval-type Bossa Nova, laying perfect backdrop to Seu George's soulfully conscious crooning. Bottom line: if you liked him in A Life Aquatic, or if you're a fan of just closing your eyes and imagining a better world, you'll really enjoy this album.
