CDs OUT TUESDAY: Seu Jorge. Cru

If you saw The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou last winter, you know Brazilian singer Seu Jorge. He played Pete dos Santos, the fella singing David Bowie tunes in Portuguese while the rest of the crew conducted their "research." But he's been a star in his native Brazil for years as part of the group Farofa Carioca, and made his feature film debut in countryman Fernando Meirelles's nominated City of God. '"'

With Cru, his second solo album, he covers Serge Gainsbourg and Elvis (with Chatterton and Don't, respectively}, but also sings passionately of love, of his origins in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and, curiously enough, rails against the pervasiveness of breast implants. All in a jazzy, summery Brazilian pop style.
