WORLD MUSIC: SEU JORGE

Monday: The rise of Seu Jorge could be described as a funny way to spearhead a samba revival. The Brazilian songsmith boasts a lovely way with a tune and accompanies himself on acoustic guitar splendidly. But it was his role in the film "City of God" that brought Jorge's talents to a larger audience. And he really hit the American pop-culture radar through the comedy "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou," a sendup of the Jacques Cousteau aesthetic that featured Jorge as a deckhand who transformed glam-era David Bowie songs into acoustic sambas.
