Saying Seu Jorge's Portuguese renditions of David Bowie classics was the best part of Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou might be a bit of a stretch, but they damn sure were a nice touch. After appearing in the cultish flick, Jorge made a Stateside push with his music, releasing Cru last summer to critical acclaim, proving he wasn't a one-trick devil dog. While Jorge used traditional Brazilian instrumentation on the album, his eclectic choice of cover songs (Serge Gainsbourg's "Chatterton" among them) again offered a unique, innovative twist. Last year's First Unitarian Church performance wowed onlookers even while some may have been annoyed with constant and loud requests for "Rebel Rebel." Now that some time has passed since the movie, let's hope that's come to a rest and we can watch the man work in peace. 06/20/06 >> go there
