A fresh wave of Brazilian soul sweeps into The Music Hall on Saturday, July 8, with the powerful, passionate sounds of Seu Jorge. Presented as part of The Music Hall’s Intimately Yours series, Jorge will perform selections from his new solo album "Cru," which is already an international hit.

Jorge’s music was featured in the Bill Murray movie, "The Life Aquatic," and Jorge himself appeared in the film "City of God," which explored the poverty and violence of the favelas, the Brazilian slums where he grew up. Jorge was once homeless, and by age 10 was repairing tires to help his family. The stark environment of the slums has colored his music, giving it depth, honesty and poignancy. His songs speak right to the soul, yet also soar in celebration - he escaped the favela - a feat few accomplish.

Seu Jorge performs in The Music Hall’s Intimately Yours series on Saturday, July 8, at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $29; $26 for Music Hall members. Tickets can be purchased at The Music Hall box office (28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth), by phone at 436-2400, or online at www.themusichall.org.
