In the U.S Seu Jorge is primarily known for his acting. He played Knockout Ned in the Brazilian film City of God, set amid his own youthful haunts in Rio's favelas, and the David Bowie-obsessed singing sailor in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. But Jorge is first a musician, whose spare, mostly acoustic sambas have a quiet urgency. Aguafj'cdirectorWesAnderson had Jorge sing his lilting, Portuguese versions of Bowieclassics on camera. Studiotakes ofthe Bowie material, released last fall as The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions (Hollywood], sport a wry intimacy and suggest previously un discovered dimensions to the songs. 06/21/06
