SEU JORGE

Whether they've seen Seu Jorge in movies or at Memorial Union, fans of the Brazilian singer likely already have their tickets for this world music event. That would be Tuesday, when Jehro opens for Jorge at 8 p.m. in Union Theater, 800 Langdon St.

Jehro is sort of a World Music Festival all by himself. A Frenchman of Greek-Italian-Corsican ancestry, he grew up in Marseilles, then as a 20-year-old moved to London and immersed himself in pop, rock and reggae, surrounded by Spanish and Jamaican musicians.

Jorge is a singer, producer, composer and player---and actor. He appeared in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" as Pele dos Santos and covered 13 David Bowie songs in Portuguese. Jorge, who grew up in the slums of Brazil, also starred as Knockout Ned in the Brazilian film about young man who grew up in the Rio de Janeiro slum known as "City of God"

Tickets for the concert are $17 in advance and $19 day of show, with UW-Madison student tickets $10 each. For information, call the box office at 262-2201.
